205 Gti 2.0 Turbo Won't Boost

Recommended Posts

gledhill

hi ive completely rebuilt a 205 which should have been broken for bits as it was a sea side rotted shell. ive replaced almost every panel at a high cost and a hell of a lot of time welding and painting.

Coming to the finishing line and the dam thing wont boost properly. round my block it will only boost to about 6 psi at a push. ive checked for boost leaks ,by injecting with around 3bar and its ok. any thoughts cheers

iirc 6 psi is standard boost for these.

Yep, you won;t get much more it's just a get me buy engine as I call it from Pug before the 16v engines cam along,

In std form I think anyway it's a very disapointing engine

thats even with a bleed valve though too. i did one a couple of years ago with the engine from the 605svti and with the bleed valve and a t28 i could hit 20 psi with no mods from the ecu. the guy from hi flow heads reconed it was impossible .....then said it was possible with an early ecu!

the car just not go at all really. maybe a fuel problem?

i will check the plugs tom.

Try geting some mole grips and clamping the pipe from the actuator so it should boost more than standard, If it still doesnt boost much or at all try chacking your waste gate and spring, When i bought my engine the waste gate flap was fitted backward (so it was constantly open) so it did not boost at all! So i fitted it correctly and still wouldnt boost! In the end it was the acctuator/spring itself.

that was my next step actually. i operated it yesterday with the air line from my compressor so it does work but will check the flap! mmm cant wait! that is more plausable that something with the actuator though, thanks

would be nice to have it done though is come so far..... from this!

Have you got a proper VSS signal?

Have You checked the error codes?

I have got 14,5 psi at overboost and 9,5 psi at normal boost above 3000 rpm.

Connect the wg directly tot the inlet manifold to check the opening pressure of it.

Mine opens approx 6~7 psi at direct connection.

I adjusted my wg a little bit, because it was very soft, at direct connection the pressure was only ~ 5 psi.

Revue technique says:

TURBOCHARGER

Make and type: GarrettT2.

Boost Pressure:

- 0.3 bar at 3000 rpm é empty.

- 0.65 bar to 4500 rpm unladen.

- 0.9 bar to 3000 rpm at full load.

Pressure controlled valve régulatnce: 1 bar.

Moving the control valve stem 3 mm.

the injectors were correct the first time. the plugs were really sutty so im asuming its too rich and chokin up the engine.

ive changed lambda probe, throttle body, injectors, fuel pressure regulator.

the only thing not plugged in is the electronic speedo drive. the lambda probe has power to it

i havent a clue now!!

help!

what diagnostics work with these? i have 2 kinds a laptop one(ecu pro) and the autel vag one

non of these do it

The old Motronic test works here too. Just find the 2 pin diag socket and earth the Pin 1 using the diag method. It will flash the fault codes on the MIL lamp.

But as standard they dont boost much,

Just fit a bleed valve adjust to 12-14psi unless this doesnt work?

Mine has no VSS and no Lambda sensor but still boosts fine and is quick to say the least!

hi,don't know if this helps and i'm not a mechanic but i had a similar problem. I have the xu10j2te 2.0l 8v turbo from a xantia. I also couldnt get above 6psi of boost. It has a bleed valve fitted which unbeknownst to me was faulty with the ball missing from its internals. When trying to diagnose this i simply disconnected and plugged off either end of the hoses(one to the actuator and the other to the boost pipe to the intercooler). This allowed the turbo to spin up to the max and boost around the 20psi mark(under load) proving that the turbo was capable of more boost. I now aim to set boost to 12-14 psi.Hope this helps.I live in leeds so not far from you if you want to have a look at my set up.Cheers.matt.
