Top Engine Mount Gti 6

Recommended Posts

Just removed the top engine mount arm, and found that the bolt through the rubber mount moves, is this right?

Thanks

I can quite easily wobble the bolt left and right

The stud or 'bolt' will move around a little, especially if the rubber mount is a standard one and worn, but it shouldn't turn, or the whole unit shouldn't move, it should be securely screwed into it's boss on the inner wing.

from the line of rust around the base of the stud I'd guess its that itself that is moving not the bush flexing, the buffers look rather past their best too.

Not too terrible, and normal-ish for a used standard mount tbh.

You can washer the buffers so they sit against the top mount arm and steady it a little, or just get a BBM mount etc.

Looking at the rear buffer I would say you are getting excessive movement from the mount, and looking at the vid I would say you have quite a bit of movement on the mount when you consider the engine is not under load.

May as well put uprated ones in there, I did and was very happy with them, the existing bushes are well well past their best nowadays!
