Be3 Clutch Cable

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Hi,

Search reveals many others have had a similar issue.

Bought a clutch cable today, removed the bit at the pedal and found it had the plastic clip. The new one, has a metal end with a hole in it, so I had to use a nut and bolt to connect to the pedal.

However, it's too short at the gearbox end.

Looking at the BE1 cable I have in the loft, I think I've been given a BE1 cable rather than a BE3. Do the nonpeugeot cables have this metal clip/bolt affair or have I been given the wrong cable?

Thanks

Keith

metal end on the cable would suggest that its a BE1 cable, especially if its too short.

pre 1990 is metal end with a clevis pin, with a hole in the clutchpedal, post 1990 is a hooked clutch pedal and plastic cable end fitting.

regardless of gearbox used, just happens to coincide with the change from be1 to be3, the same pedalwas used on MA gearboxes ;)

Thanks WP, I shall take it back tomorrow. I knew it was too much luck for such a random cable to be in stock locally.

would call the one youve been given more random than what you were after ;)

So they ordered another BE3 cable and it's got the same pedal connector.

Cable 3 ordered

Cable 3 ordered :(

The first cars to use BE3 gearboxes still had the metal cable end with a hole for the clevis pin. There are three (at least) types of 205 GTI clutch cable: BE1, early BE3 and late BE3. I think BE1, only, uses a white plastic bayonet fitting on the pedal-box end of the outer cable, both BE3 ones use a stepped rubber grommet. But there might be yet more variation than that.

You have been given a BE3 cable, but the wrong BE3 cable.

Hope you get it sorted out.

John

The one that is on order for today is a BE3 cable for the later cars, the Partco book had seperate ones for with PAS and without PAS but they've both been replaced by one code, hopefully this will be the correct one!

They had a BE1 cable in stock!? Bet they have been waiting years to get rid of that and you took it back and ruined their day! For shame! :(

Another wrong connector.

So I went to GSF, they can't get one.

Went to local motor factors they only stock Firstline cables and I've tried them all at Partco/Unipart ;)

Just bought one from ebay, hopefully!

yup, certainly looks good <_<

for reference, if you are struggling to obtain a BE3 205 cable, a late ZX volcane cable is only 10mm longer overall and is identical in fittings and clutch release mechanism.
