Ph1 Instruments Into Ph2 Dash

I fancy changing the dash for a Phase 2 as it would allow easier positioning of switches, fuses and relays but a bit daunted by the wiring issues. This would be simplified if my current Ph1 instrument panel fitted (securely) into a Ph2 surround. Has anyone tried this?

i have done this to my my d reg 205 for exactly the same reasons and had no problems but make sure you keep hold of the phase 1 dash as when it comes to selling, some people like to see originality when they buy old cars....
