Gas Gold's

Recommended Posts

Spiky

my mate has just fitted some new gas golds and the spring pan is. welll, in the way .

he is limited on how low he can put the car,

he is runing C5 wheels, but they are only 1mm diffence to gti wheels

another mate has a set with 205 wheels and his are the same

surely it cant be good that he will have to run spacers to use they shocks?

very poor design IMO

he is running 8" springs. obviously he can run shorter springs to sort it, but 8's would be better

I know what you mean Spiky. It's because they're 2.5 inch bodied and have a locking collar so you are limited on ride height. Only ways around it are to run shorter springs or wheel spacers.

I'm probably going to 7" springs with mine because of this but I'm also running 205 width front tyres which adds to the issue.

It's the same for Leda too, and a few others I'm sure.

No worries getting the springs, I've always found them easy to source. You can any size, poundage you want from Gaz directly usually £40 posted a pair. Give Warren an e-mail at wcgazz@hotmail.com and he'll send them out next day normally.

Or you can go with Faulkners or Eibach. Demon-Tweeks are quite competitive with them if you get the discount through the 306gti6 forum.

ok cheers for the info, just email this thread to the guys so they can sort it :D

7" might still not be enough, 6" should be fine :)

not a poor design whatsoever, your friend is just running it too low for that particular length+rate spring.

could also be he's running it simply way too low.

my gaz golds are on 8" springs and it sits as low as I want it by just tightening the spring pan enough to take away any movement before fitting to the car. I reckon 7" would make it sit too low unless you are running a very high spring rate.

mine are 250lbs/inch with 23mm TBs and 25mm ARB in a 205 beam and I still think it could go stiffer at the back.

After reading this thread it gave me the kick up the arse to go and fit my GHA's. And guess what I'm having exactly the same problem. If I have it on the lowest setting it's just about low enough but there's very little clearance between the tyre (195/50/15 goodyear F1) and adjuster ring. If I adjust it half way I have no clearance issues but it sits too high.

load of crap, you dont have spout it out sometimes.

he is on 8" springs so not a long spring and it's hardly compressed

it's not low, infact it's currenty at it's safest but as it's a track car it's to high.

it is a bad design, they should either NOT sell 8" springs with them or make them fit fine.

mine is much lower with my bilsteins, and i dont class mine as low as there is still a gap between the tyre and arch
