Air Flow Meter

I have an Mi16 alloy block in my 205 . The air flow meter part number on my car is 0280202056. Is this correct for this engine or is it a 1.6 gti afm? If it is the 1.6 gti version is it a problem? The car cuts out all the time. To say it seems to be running rich is an understatement!

What management are you running on the car?

If you're running proper Mi16 management (which you really should do, as Mi16's are rubbish on 8v management IMO) then I'm surprised that it even runs with a 1.6 GTi AFM frankly, seeing as Mi16 is Motronic management and a 1.6 is Jetronic!

In summary, it's completely the wrong AFM for an Mi16! The correct AFM part number is 0280 202 202

Ah, so it's still running 1.6 management - less than ideal for running an Mi16 on, but the AFM you have is the correct one to match that ECU.

Miles had a full setup to convert your Mi16 to the proper management for sale, well worth doing as it will transform the engine, and also make it much more well behaved, in terms of idling etc.

I am not very technically minded, How hard would it be to rewire the car up with the motronic ecu and appropriate afm and loom etc?

Would it be an expensive job to get a garage to do?

Most garages would probably be reluctant to take it on, as any conversion can be fraught with difficulty if you don't know the car in question inside out. However there are plenty of people here on the forum who could do it for you, me for one.

I think everything is sorted now and I'd like to thank everyone for their help.
