Insurance For 306 With Cage

Recommended Posts

boombang

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've looked at insurance for a caged car and I've tried a few of the usual suspects and drawn a blank.

Didn't occur to me that a 306 wouldn't come under classic insurance and that it might be an issue getting it for a reasonable price.

Privilege, who insure my Xsara, can do the cage but can't cover aftermarket exhausts or induction. Footman James no longer cover cages on non-classic cars.

Car is a 306, usual mods - cage, seats, harnesses, exhaust, induction, suspension.

For the record, last insurance for a modded car like this was my 309 Mi16 at a grand total of £195 through Firebond...

Adrian Flux added my cage and seats at no extra cost.

Will try flux in the morning, but they've not once given me a quote anywhere near competitive - maybe get lucky this time?

HIC... well they used to insure my 309, but the girl I spoke to tonight honestly did not have a clue what she was talking about, the call was plain awkward whilst she argued and contested facts, and ended up with a terrible quote. This brought back memories of old, where I got fed up with dealing with idiots who shouldn't be working for specialists, and instead paid more and went for a true specialist who understood what I was looking to insure.

Oh really? I have always been able to speak to good people there that help as much as they can, I've not had to change anything for a few years, just renewed it so not had to get to technical with anyone, shame as they were really good to deal with before.

Reckon it's pot luck really - I am sure they do have enthusiasts there, but I got unlucky. Bound to happen that there will be a cross section of people there - perhaps the girl I spoke to was into show cars, off road cars or maybe even home insurance!

When I originally insured my 309 (going back 5 year) I distinctly remember having real issues with them understanding what I had done to the car. The 309 was running a lot of mods and I've always been careful to ensure every single one is listed on the policy correctly - last thing I wanted was any comeback if there was an accident.

Limited slip differential was the big one, distinctly remember having to describe what it does and where it fits, only for it to be classed as a "gearing modification" on the documentation.

When I called back to go through and check what they had it listed as, got through to someone who was spot on and knew their stuff. My faith was restored and used them for a year or two of insurance.

I've come up with one price I'm almost prepared to pay, although it's £200 odd more than I wanted to spend out - will obviously bring that up when I call back and see if can get a touch more off.

Now just a waiting game for the others who are shut over the weekend to come back with prices. Hopefully I can get it insured with CCI like my last car, although that was on a Lotus/sports car scheme and unsure what this will come under.

I've always found Adrian Flux to be pretty good reasonable although their prices can vary. One year the renewal was high so I switched to Greenlight who were ok. Next year with same car Flux was cheaper again!

They know their stuff but the prices Fluxtuate :) Sorry!
