Weight Reduction And Modifications/

Hi, i dont want to seem like a bit of a d*ck asking some questions that may have been asked loads of times before, but here are a few easy ones;

 

roughly how much weight would be saved from removing a spare wheel and cage plus all the soundproofing under the seats etc? ( just a rough guestimate, 1.6 gti btw) and does the noise ruin the driving? car is an everyday car, but always have music on anyways

 

also are there any modifications which can be done to the 1.6 gti, that would be similar to a gti-6 conversion or mi16 etc that are the same, so means they can be swapped over when a conversion is done??? if not then thats all i am looking to know, because not going to spend money buying mods for the 1.6 if i plan on swapping engines...

sorry i know, but its also to do with xu performance but i didnt kow where to put it :S but i looked through the weights thread and never saw someone write up how much these weigh, unless i missed it

It means performance regarding the engine, misc technical would probably be the next place next time.

 

If you can find the weight of a 1.6 wheel, then add say 1.5kg for the cage. I'm not sure what you mean about the soundproofing, whether you mean the stuff under the carpet or just the little bit in the boot. Under the carpet can weigh anything between about 5 and 20kg depending how waterlogged it is, and the boot is probably around 2kg dry.

 

The wheel and cage are worth doing if you can afford to lose them (punctures etc) but I wouldn't bother with removing sound deadening unless you're completely stripping the car.

If you are looking at changing the engine at some point your money would be better spent improving brakes and or suspension ready for the conversion rather than modding the 1.6 lump

yes i suppose your right, so il start looking into uprating these. If anyone wants to point me in the right direction, i would appreciate it

sorry was having a wee look through the forum and saw about the xu10 head. Would this fit onto the xu5ja , or does it only fit onto the xu9??
