clearly they're different externally, and internally the old pump have a pressed metal pump, whereas the new one has a cast impellor style pump. It bolted on perfectly, but i guess it's for a later engine model. Has anyone else had this problem, and what have they done?! Guess a trip back to ECP is called for, what a ball ache.

Pissed off now, was going to get the car back on the road today. Glad I did the job though, the tensioner that I took off was completely shot.

Looks like it's an 1.9 Mi16 / XU7 16v pump judging from the casting that forms part of the cambelt cover on the 16v engines. Apart from that, they are otherwise the same as an 8v pump AFAIK.

I wouldn't worry too much about one having a pressed impeller and one cast, as I've seen and used both types without issue.

TBH I'm semi tempted to use it but it means that I can't use the plastic cambelt covers, and I can see that ending in tears if a stone or something gets flicked up into the inner workings of the belt.

Well, first things first - see if ECP have the correct pump in stock, or whether all the pumps they are are the type they've supplied.

Better to do the job once and do it properly, even if that means that it takes another day or two.

Got the right part from ECP, who were actually very good about the whole thing. Still a PITA, mind.

Will try and put together a quick 'how to', given that quite a few people are after one. It's an easy job anyway, really.

They gave you the late 8v pump (114 tooth belt type), The pic of yours is a orginal pump, all pattern pumps are like you have

Hmmm, you've got me a bit worried now, now many teeth should my belt have....I've got a november/december '89 1.6, so mk1.5, and the belt seems slack to me with the tensioner let loose to do it's worst. Should i be looking for a shorter belt?
