Help! Heater Matrix Pipe Ruptured

Recommended Posts

shaundean

Hi,

Firstly the car is a '98 1.9gti as in my sig.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the top water pipe that runs along the bulkhead. It's either the feed/return to the heater matrix. Can't think where the other end connects at the minute and the car is sat on the road at home so I can't get pictures but if anyone can help me please? Mine ruptured last night in a bad way. ;)

I need to get a replacement today/tomorrow because I've got to drive 200+ miles tomorrow evening/over the weekend and car rental at my age is still ridiculously expensive, if not impossible. :)

Thanks

Shaun

I guess I coul;d get the 2.5 foot long one and trim it down to suit.

I changed this the other day, best bet is to get one from BakerBM, make sure you get the right one though, there's 2 different depending on the age of the car I think.

The top heater matrix pipe (with the bleed screw) should go down to the lower coolant distribution block (low down on the cambelt end of the engine) and the lower heater matrix pipe should run along the bulkhead and to the side of the thermostat housing, via a small coolant block underneath the dizzy with the ECU temp sensor in on Phase 1.5 cars like yours.

I think I've got myself a little confused. I was up until 2am trying to fix my phone and laptop and had to run around getting my push bike road worthy this morning to get to work on so my brain isn't engaged. :)

The pipe that has ruptured goes through a bracket in the centre of the bulkhead, it is the top one of two pipes, it has ruptured right where it meets the bracket. It is about and inch in diameter.

Can't recall offhand, £25-£30ish, he gives a discount to forum members too.

This hose blew on mine-then another, then another...had been concerned head gasket had blown, but compressions OK. Turned out to be cracks in the cylinder head opening up under certain conditions....so be wary this might not be just a case of a hose reaching its sell by date.

Thanks for the offer Simes, but as I was driving up to sunny (read: windy) Scarborough on Friday, I needed a pipe pronto. Managed to get a Baker BM one and it gave me an excuse to drive my housemate's '83 316 to pick it up! :)

Lagonda, the pipe that ruptured was bulging for a week beforehand, i was just praying it would hold out until payday, which it did...almost, but i will keep an eye on it.
