Front Shocks

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I appreciate that this has been covered but searching just brings up hundreds of sudjects that may just briefly mention 'front shocks'.

I need to replace mine, want to keep my restoration as original as poss but don't really want to spend £230 per shock!! What would you use that are as close to OE as poss? Alternatively as mine don't seem to be leaking but creak alot when rotated, is there a way of refurbing and curing this noise?

Creaking is the top mount bearings probably. If they are not leaking keep them, Peugeot OE dampers are very good quality and seem to last a very long time.

Get a set of bearings and new top mount rubbers and that should sort it.

As said, creaking is normally a failed/siezed top mount bearing rather than an issue with the shock itself. The bearing alone can be purchased quite cheaply from somewhere like GSF, but note that it's listed as a Citroen ZX / Berlingo part (or certainly was last time I checked)

To answer the original question though, IMO a reasonable cost new replacement for an OE front shock would probably be a Bilstein B4, which are about £45 each. Avoid the matching B4 rear dampers though.

Thanks so far, I'm going to try and repair then to start with, as I said, there seems to be no leaks and I guss in the end if they do go its not going to be a nightmare to change them as all the bolts, boots and bushes around thgem are to be renewed so it'll come apart easy enough!
