Tt Turbo, Rebuild Or Replace?

Recommended Posts

matty_gti

After finally puling my finger out, I’ve decided to put my TT engine into my 205.

After having a look at the TT turbo I’ve noticed a small crack appearing from the wastage valve seat so I’m on the look out for

another turbo (I think it will cost way to much to repair). I want to stay with a T25 size as I will be using the fifth injector setup for now and then

hopefully go to something more upmarket like Emerald in the near future.

My question is what cars can I pinch one of these turbo’s from?, I’ve been thinking some Rovers, Saabs, and Nissan 200sx’s or even some 406’s or Citroens with the XU10 engine as these incorporate the exhaust elbow into the turbo. The only thing I’m concerned about is can I actually unbolt and rotate either the compressor or exhaust parts and then bolt them back into place so I can get them to fit properly?. I would not touch the impellor so don’t see how it could effect balance etc?.

Any help would be appreciated.

Matt

Cracked wastegate housings on T2 and T25's is so common that it is unusual to find one that isn't. If it is just a hairline crack the turbo will still make good boost regardless. So if it isn't that bad, don't change it for the sake of it.

O rite ok, well the shaft does not spin freely either, and the blades are chipped slighty

Just been reading your project thread, what turbo did you use as it has the exhaust elbow is built into the housing?.
