Lowering And A Tow Bar?

Recommended Posts

jonathan205

Hey guys,

I know ill probably be hated for this but i need to fit a tow bar to my 205! Anyone got a second hand one with all the wiring etc? I cant seem to post in the wanted section for some reason

Also is there anywhere good in the midlands that does work on 205's? Id like to get my torsion bar lowered and start to think about a few other things?

Thanks

you need 50 posts to post in the wanted or for sale section. what are you towing? I wouldn't recommend lowering your car if you're gonna tow with it

I use a trailer quite often on my 1.6gti. I would not recommend lowering it and towing as the tow bar is low enough to start with. Mine was lowered roughly 30-40mm when I put a tow bar on, but I found it better to tow at the standard ride height. Why not put a tow bar on first and then try it and then lower it if you want to.

Mine is lowered (30mm) and has a tow bar, Never caught it on anything in 10 years. Use it to pull my boat (500kg) and it tows perfectly.

Don't expect to get a new one then! :)

If you want to post in the wanted section you need to make 50 decent posts, it stops people from signing up to buy / sell and then buggering off. If you want to get there quickly, go through some threads and try to make some useful posts, but avoid doing what everyone does and go through every project thread saying "looks nice, bet she goes well!" ;)

We used to tow a 15' dinghy with a standard height 309GTI, this set up would be marginally heavier than an X-cross bike.

It rubbed the arches loads.

Don't know where you'd get a 2nd hand towbar, but you'll get a brand new 7 pin socket from a motorfactors for around £12-15. Not hard to wire in as there is no multiplex wiring. Then that just leaves you with finding a bar.

It should not affect the arches, you should only have maximum nose weight of 50kg on the trailer so the car is not taking a huge loading. I assume your beam was on its way out? My 205 does not rub at all, 5 up with dog, luggage and boat behind. Sure it hits the bump stops from time to time but that's what they are there for? If I am by myself you would hardly know the boat was there.

Ive just bought one for 60quid with everthing included.. looks easy enough to fit too, so Ill see what happens in terms of rubbing..I cant imaging a tiny trailer with a crosser on it is going to rub! Just need to find a trailer now :/

Amazing how prices change. I paid £10 for my gen pug one (with electrics) from a scrappy 10 years ago.... and it still looked like new. and my Passat bosal brand new one was only 70 all in delivered earlier this year
