8x18 by the looks of it, the arches have the standard radius but are much wider, also seem to have the engine much lower and more central in the bay than a road car, 1.9 cam covers with a P2 dash, not sure if these are 1.9's or 2.0's though, 290-320 bhp

under 1000 kg's too

The engine is much lower because the dry sump allows them to run a kind of upside down gear box that the diffs sits at the top of rather than the bottom of.

The diff sits that high in relation to the engine on the V6 Mondeo super tourers one of the drive shafts goes staight though the center of the V.

Even WRC cars have been using this type of gear box for some time now.

Cheers Martin.

the first peugeot 405's had the gearbox in more or less the standard position. The later ones had the engine repositioned tilted forward with the gearboxes you describe. My gearbox is an early one and is pretty traditional in its fitment.

Quality pics! Gotta love a 405! I was under the impression that all the 405 touring cars, regardless of phase, used the 1.9 engine because of the weight saving. I also thought the 406's did aswell. I have definetly seen a picture of a 406 touring car with a 1.9 Mi16 mounted vertically in it but whether that was just a one off i do not know.

Some owners have upgraded their engine spec, mostly from Pipo moteurs, they continued with the development of peugeot engines over the years, making engines for WRC, S2000, and the 306 maxi where over a series off evolutions they gained in excess of 300hp (some say 320 is the figure) . The supertouring cars had a rev limitation at the time due to regulations set at 8500 rpm, these engines don't...
