Fitting A Quick Rack Kit.

Recommended Posts

tdr_1976

I'm toying with the idea of buying and Fitting a quick rack kit to the steering rack on my Pug.

Has anyone got any pointers or links to guides as to how it should be done properly.

I tried to do a serach, but it brings back irrelevant stuff..... :)

Cheers!

It's been a while since i did mine but from what i remember i removed the pinion adjuster first then removed the pinion and bearing. I then peeled back the rubber boots for the track rods and you can see the locking washers on the ends of them. Remove the locking washers and then use a big pipe wrench to undo the track rods from the rack. You should then be able to slide the rack out of the casing and remove the crappy plastic bush at the end of the rack.

I've probably missed something out as i did do this about 3 years ago but i think thats basically it.

Hardest bit is locating the correct pinion bearing.
