I believe that Xantia HDi 'boxes use a hydraulic clutch setup and are ML5, rather than the conventional cable setup and BE3 box used on a 306.

According to citroen servicebox the Xantia HDI could have either an ML5 or a BE3R depends on RPO number of the car.

The easiest way to tell if its a BE or an ML in the Xantia is that all the ML gearboxes had cable gearchange whereas the BE's have gear rod/linkage like a 205.
