Exhaust Diameter Query

I've got the standard 3 part exhaust on my car and it recently made 142bhp at the wheels which I thought was good.

 

I got talking to another forum member today and he's saying the phase 1 system restircts the MI engine !!

 

Is there any truth in this or is it just "internet mechanical chat"

 

If there is something in it, Would moving to the later system make that much odds or should I be looking to go with something like camerons 2.5" system.(which I just came across)

 

I was told today that "Miles" does a system for the MI,What like is this and would it make any real world gains ??

Just fitted a 2.5" to my 2.0 turbo and has made a BIG difference over standard.

Had to fabricate it meself though.

An exhaust for a turbo engine is totally different to an exhaust for a nat asp engine. The later phase 2 standard system is pretty good and a worthwhile upgrade to the earlier system.

Hi Mate,

 

As I said the other day,

 

I'm gonna try a 2.50" system and see what like just don't have the funds just now.

 

It's quite pricey to go for the 2.5"(£350 near on) system compared against the standard phase 2" system( £125)

 

I would just love to know what I would gain going for the larger of the 2.

 

Have a read through the old posts.I believe Maxi has a good power output running the standard phase 2 exhaust.

I'd say if you made 142bhp at the wheels then quite obviously your engine is not being restricted! (If it's standard of course.)

Obviously of you are running TB's, cams, ported head etc then yes your output is probably not as high as one would expect, but really without knowing more about your engine we can't say.
