Petrol Into A Diesel 206

Hope you guys don't mind me posting this here, it's just I know allot of you are very knowledgeable about everything pug related!

The engine in my car is in a bad way, it's breathing heavily and there's allot of smoke in the morning most days.

I'm loathe to sell it as I really like it, so i'm tempted to turn it into a track car project for me over the winter as i've already bought a golf to cover me.

I was wondering if it had the same engine mountings as the gti-6 or 180 gti engines and how different is the wiring loom?

Its never been an XU bodyshell, though gti6 into them has been done.

Bit of a backwards step though as they're a heavy lump, best to stick to the EW IMO.

But, being a 2000 car it may be multiplex, which I think all the 180's were so you'd need to change instrument clusters BSI's fuel tanks fuel lines possibly wiring looms.

I would fix it rather than convert, it'd be far easier to just buy another gti, they are quite cheap now.

Does anyone know if the EW and DW engines have the same mounts and compatible loom?

After speaking with a mechanic today it seems the engine mounts are the same but the wiring loom/fusebox is different if anyone is interested which bodes well imho if I use megasquirt.
