Wheel Choice

Recommended Posts

Right, the time has nearly come to put some new rubber on the car, and so at the same time, I am thinking of changing the wheels.... but to what?

As the car is mostly used on the track, my first thought was to go all out for compomotives or similar - in white - rally style... however, the more I think about it, the more scared I am of looking like a massive chav, and I don't want to mess too much with the car's classic look.

I know it's my car, my choice etc. but I would be interested to know other people's opinions!

Standard horrible Gentry alloys:

Some dodgy photoshop trials:

I want to go to 15" so I can start playing with bigger brakes etc. Are the standard 1.9 wheels plenty wide enough for some track rubber?

Currently swaying towards the anthracite griffe wheels, but changing my mind every half hour, any other obvious choices I have missed?

Best option imo, suits the colour of the car :)

Cyclones or Lazers to keep the Peugeot OEM vibe?

+1 for the Lazers they look really good on the 205 and seem to suit the shape, would look nice in graphite :)

Speaking from experience Cyclones really don't suit the 205 imho.

IMO if 15 inch is the largest you want to go (probably a good idea if it's for track use) then I'd stick to 1.9 speedlines as I find any other 15 inch wheel looks too small, just like when you see chavs driving their mums 3 cylinder Corsa with Halfords' multifit 15's fitted. Example 2 - Mk2 MR2's came with 15 inch wheels for most of their production and looked spot on, fit aftermarket 15's and they look shocking.

Don't really agree with this, speedlines look too big IMO, especially if the car is lowered.

3rd option looks best to me, or Sl434's, but be prepared to spend way too much on a set of those.

I'd also think about some better tyres as these will probably make the single biggest difference to the car.

True, it's a widely believed fact that P6000's are one of the worst tyres ever made.

definetley agree with that, having had them they inspire no confidence at all, and in the wet they are just dangerous

 You're not wrong!! (also for the choice of tyres as well, which came with the wheels... just a case of scrabbling away the pennies for some new rubber!)

I have an oberon green STDT with 1.9 wheels (in standard silver) but those look so much better, did you buy them already painted or have them renovated?
