what year is it? 1.9 or 1.6? Electric roof rams are known to be problematic and if the cars been leaking then the floor can suffer I suppose.

Rubber seals around glass -ALL of them as they perish and shrink, are cab. specific and horendously expensive!

Check under the rear seat, water ingress rots the bottom of the seat squabs.

As you say, the roof - but dont neglect the frame, particularly behind the rear windows, and check for bubbling under the roof fabric at the base of the rear quarters and below rear window above the boot and the front edge to 5-6 inches back. It may seem obvious, but check the roof opens and closes easily. Automatic roof rams are hydraulic, driven by a pump in the boot - if the roof does not operate automatically there is a pressure relief on the pump allowing you to operate it manually.

Doors are prone to splitting above the handles, be suspicious of fresh paint.

Carpets are like hen's teeth and prone to splitting behind front seats- always lift mats.

All common GTi areas also apply. Happy hunting!

The hardest one to check, the seam on the bulkhead, I've seen quite a few now with bad rust there. Floor and jacking points bar that not allot else really

None of the hood parts are available any more as well.
