Central Locking

Recommended Posts

MrG

I was working on the black 205 yesterday, had the doors/boot open etc, and the central locking tried to activate and lock itself? Key was in my pocket and we have no fob. so I unlocked it, shut the doors but left the boot open and it did it again, locked itself? It sort of locked, unlocked and locked in quick succession? The previous owner did say this happened every now and again. Anyhow not really a problem at the moment but I'd like to fix it. So any possible ideas? I thought maybe a dodgy earth.

could be a bad earth but check all the locking mechanisms are all free and move easily and you haven't got a bad live anywhere touchng from time to time , take it you dont have anti hijack fitted?

hi please immediately fit a 7.5 amp fuse in the ctrl locking slot in the fuse box cos I had a 205 master unit (in drivers door ) go bad and it held the power on to the locks and burnt out all 3 units in one sitting once ...the 7.5Afuse is strong enough for the intermittent demand of locking it but weak enough not to allow damage to occur and if it blows its saved you ...this may not mean that your unit is defective but its a wise precaution definitely do check all the mechanisms in the doors are free as the previous member said

If they are locking ok most of the time its probably not an earth issue

check the door looms for short-cuts - damaged wire isolation was reason for mine opening and locking when it had water in the doors. So when it was raining or after a wash it had it's own mind

Do you have the IR sensor in the roof panel next to the map light? Mine was doing the same the other week..had to to disconnect the battery overnight so it wouldn't advertise it's self as open to everyone. Couple of days later I noticed a smell of burning plastic..oh joys! Turns out the handle on my sunroof has started leaking again after my quick fix..and has in turn shorted out the wires for the central locking and burnt them quite nicely

From my experience, a new grey control unit in the drivers door solves it if an early model.
