What are you looking for from a car? e.g. space, 2 -seater, everyday, weekend toy etc.

not sure tbh,i needs to be fast and rwd i think,i only use my cars at the weekend as i travel to work in a free van ;),running costs/insurance are not a problem,i'm liking a bmw 330 coupe at the moment but there a bit too clinical for me

Elise or Speedster?

They may be a bit too hardcore to live day to day though.

MX5?

I have driven my friend's Mini (1.6 N/A) and the handling/feedback was great. The seats are not very supportive and it is very small but if you don't need the space they are still the benchmark between hot hatches.

no fast jap cars for me they really are too expensive to run,i'm leaning towards an audi s3 i was working in the local vats and blagged a go in the managers one,i liked it a lot,she wasn't to keen on my driving style and didn't think i should go that fast.....

You said fast, rwd, and running costs are not an issue? Then I would recommend you save up a bit more money then buy yourself one of these... :)

I too am looking at E46 330s. They are 'soft' from the factory but with a remap and a suspension geometry tweak can be made entertaining.

There are a lot out there that are RWD and fast.....

Out of interest, whats the servicing etc like on those. Not too fussed on fuel economy, but the servicing of M cars scares the s*it out of me. 'M' means money!

When I was doing my research into buying one, the arrogant to55er in my local BMW dealer tried to tell me that an Inspection 1 service was £700 and inspection 2 service was £1200. Presumably he judged I couldn't afford one just by looking at me and so tried to put me off.

The reality of it is that the guy I bought it off had full BMW main dealer history which shows it never costs anything like that, and in fact had an inspection 2 done the day before I picked it up, which at Sytner Coventry was just over £500. I don't think that's too bad considering it only needs that service once every four years / 50,000 miles, or thereabouts. IIRC the Oil service is ~£170 and Inspection 1 ~£300-£350. Going forward I'll probably use an independant specialist for servicing and repairs tbh, not for the cheaper price, but for the better and more personal service you get and there are quite a few around, some of whom come highly recommended.

Tell me about arrogant BMW sales persons.........On the odd occasion I dropped off my previous BMW for servicing I made a point of wearing scabby clothes, just so the pointy shoe wearing twats could look down there nose at me. For some reason it made me smile.

Interesting about the M5 costs. Thanks
