Down Pipe Removal

Recommended Posts

locosaki

My exhaust on my car has never been right and resulted in it blowing at manifold down pipe join.

Anyway tonight I have tried to remove the down pipe but I have no chance it would seem !!

The down pipe and centre section are as one so theres not alot of room for moving the down pipe from side to side to squeeze it past the anti roll bar !

Should I be disconnecting the front subframe to allow the down pipe to come out ?

Would this even work ?

if its a single pipe then there's plenty of space, however if its a 4 branch it'll never come out without removing the subframe, or the engine.

It's a single pipe but I've been at it for a good hour,It seems to move so far then it jams on the anti roll bar/sub frame bar !

Would it make it any easier if I remove the back box ?

quite possibly then you'd have less to have to manoeuvre about, is the car in the air or are you doing this lying on your back?

With all the rubber hangers off it should just drop down & back qute easily but as said the car has to be on stands at the front at least.

The front end is in the air but I'm on my back trying to get it off.

I've had to walk away tonight or I'm gonna cause more damage than do any good !!

Twist and wiggle the exhaust as you pull it back, and it should come out from above the subframe/ARB quite easily - certainly I've never had any issue removing or refitting an exhaust in the manner that you are.

I think I'll remove the back box tomorrow to seem if that makes things any easier to move around.

Does the downpipe have to be turned on it's side to come out (I.E pointing to say the drivers wheel)

Take the backbox off and it'll be a bit lighter for you to move/twist it, but you don't have to do anything special, just pull, twist, wiggle and it'll come off. With the backbox off it should be easier - I did the same thing a few weeks back, took the backbox off and then the downpipe/centre came off ok.

It can be fiddly/tricky leaving the back-box on, but as said as long as it's all diconnected it can be done.

Magic mate,

I'll give that a go tomorrow morning.

hi just a thought for you if you are thinking of replacing the down pipe I bought a genuine one cost 80 pounds but as the genuine one is actually a twin pipe in one ie it looks like one pipe externally but inside it is divided into two this is to do with the tuning. I recomend having a look down your old pipe as sometimes with age the first part of the divider has burnt away
