Stray Wire Identification

Recommended Posts

i have tried searching but nothing similar to this has come up.

i have found a brown 7 pin multiplug in the area under thermostat housing,it has wires going to alternator, starter solenoid, oil pressure and temp switch's there are 3 other that are not connected to anything 1 red and one yellow with spade connectors on the other is white but has broken off.the 2 with spades are very dirty so look like they have never or not for a long time been connected.Had a good look around and all i can find is 2 senders on rear of stat housing that have male spades on so in theory the cables could fit to them.

does anyone know if they should have wires on and should it be 2 of the ones i have found?

also should the third wire be connected to anything?

The white one is probably the oil temperature sender connection. The sensor is on the back of the sump so that wire has to go very close to the exhaust so it gets brittle and commonly breaks. It sounds about right that the other two would go on the stat house mingted sensors - they are the water temperature gauge and temperature warning light sensors.

Thanks for the reply I will get underneath and see if in can find rest of White wire.

Sorry for all questions again I tried search but it kept coming up no results. My car is a 1.6 p1.5 on a g plate with 1.9 fitted the coil is missing it should be an oil filled type,in the box of bits that came with car it has got a dry type coil.is it possible to modify wiring to get this coil to work if so can anyone give some advice on how to do it?

Thanks

With regards to the wires from the brown multiplug check out this BrownMulitplug topic but the wire terminal caps are usually coloured to suit the sender.

All 205 GTI's have dry coils, the only difference is inner wing or inlet manifold positioning.

Graham.

I will check out the senders to see if they match up.

Thanks, sorry what I meant was the coil should be inner wing mounted

silver coil but I have 1of the type used on manifold can I modify wiring for it somehow?

Don't see coils like the silver tower type these days I automatically assumed they were still oil filled like the old days.

Later G-reg cars would have had the inlet mounted coil fitted as standard.

It isn't too hard to adapt and extend the wiring to use the older-style wing mounted coil, but I can't see why you'd ever want to?

My car has the wing mounted type but it is missing,I do have one of the manifold types that came with a box of bits so I was wondering if I can adapt wiring so I can fit the manifold type to the inner wing rather than buying and fitting the older type?

found another stray wire that i do not know where it lives.

there are 2 yellow wires going in to 1 yellow spade connector wire numbers are 75 and 75a,they come out of the plastic trunking for instrument panel and are hanging down by the ECU.are cables numbered as 75 earths? as the yellow earth connection block is near by, bit reluctant to just stick it in the earth as other cables there have green on aswell but this one does not.

Yes, the four connectors on the new style coil are only two connectors electrically speaking arranged like this ++-- so its simple.

The yellow wire is for the choke warning light, it isn't used on models without a choke like the GTI.
