What To Do?!

I am in a bit of a dilemma, one I am sure many on here have been in or may find themselves in.

Trying to keep this brief, I have a wife, 18 month old son, everyday car (Passat) and the 205 track car. I take the Passat to work leaving the wife and boy stranded at home with a car that whilst taxed and insured is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot to them.

So take the 205 to work I hear you say, I do and whilst its fun every now and then it would get very tiresome to use often. It’s a 45 minute to 1 hour journey which includes going through the centre of Bath at rush our am and pm. And once winter comes round....well....no!

The thinking currently is perhaps I would be better off with something more biased towards the road which could be used on the occasional trackday.

My budget would be around the £1500 to £2000 mark. Looking at Clio 172, 306 GTI6 that sort of thing. Doesn’t need to be a 4 door but rear seats would be handy for the boy.

What would you guys do?

you could put the 205 seats back in and let the missus look cool going to nursery. or sell and buy a 306 gti and keep it standard.

306 gti-6 is a far better car than the 172, its all about the 6 speed box and handling

Maybe I could make a bracket to mount my boys child seat in the boot :)

The standard seats wont go back in too much roll cage in the way and the floor has been cut/strengthened.

I do like the 306, had an XSI once. It was great other than trying to lock me in and catch fire!

Could you not demote the 205 to summer use only, the tax and insurance saved going towards a £800-£1000 car for your wife and boy to use?

If you are not a badge snob there are plenty of things in that kind of price range that will be reliable enough and safe enough for them to travel about in.

You need a 205 that you can use daily with the occasional track day, therefore build one to fit this criteria, maybe purchase an additional car until you have a 205 fit for purpose.

Let the wife have the Passat.

Its pretty much summer use only now, I am thinking ahead to when the weather turns cack (in about 2 days by the sounds of it :) )

I could get something for the misses to drive about I suppose, its just transfering the insurance that may be a pain.

The idea was to let the wife have the Passat.

Thankfully I don;t have to worry about this, But if I did I would go the 306 route as it's more of a day to day car and with some safety with it, Replace the suspension bush's and you have a car which handle's better than the 205 and you can use daily plus if your lucky the A/C might work

What do honest 306 GTI 6's start at? Some seem a bit too cheap.
