Compbrake Wishbone Problem

Recommended Posts

GTI6BOY

We fitted a set to my mates car along with compbrake topmounts and 309 shafts last week. We also have the arb problem which they say no longer exists?

It was all set up properly with 1.5deg of camber and laser alined

last night coming off the motorway he stopped at some lights. As he pulled away there was a bang and the car hit the deck. On closer inspection the ball joint has broken away from the wishbone and caused loads of damage to the bodywork.

I would hate to think what would happen if he was still doing 70mph on the motorway

Yeah, Compbrake wishbones are complete and utter s*ite. If I were you I would be straight on the phone to whoever supplied them to you and demanding they pay for the damage to your car. That is if you bought them new anyway.

Can you get any pics up of the failure? Would serve as a good warning for people considering to buy this wank.

That kind of failure is not even funny. Would be interesting to see what failed exactly.

That's well bad, are they the old type or their recently new type/design ?

Its good to hear no one got hurt, he's very lucky because if he was going fast going over a pot hole it could have been far worse.

Why wouldn't you want to mention it to them? They've supplied you with an inferior product which has subsequently broken! If it were me, I'd be bloody livid and straight on the phone to them demanding they paid for the damage their failed component has done to my car.

Just to get a couple of things straight though..

1) Did you buy the wishbones new, or second hand?

2) Did you modify them in any way, shape or form when you fitted them?

3)What were the circumstances before and during the failure? Hit any pot-holes, or tearing it around?

For that reason alone they need to be told. What happens if happens to someone else but alot worse!

I hope there liability insurance is upto date!

When you think a good rose joint for the hub is about £100 (20mm sized) then with the others they would make a loose on them

There was a post again about the ARB issue, we all know it exists or maybe we are all fitting them wrong ??

Sorry to hear of more issues, makes me a little nervous considering im using them on my track car. Im still running them though and have done a fair few hard trackdays. Including speeds upto 118mph no problems and used slicks in anger.

Regarding fitting i had to send mine back to be modified to fit.I did post up numerous times about this issue- seems like it isn't solved.

Nice, although I don't see where the rod-end is attached. Is it simply hammered into one end?

That looks like it will have the same clearance issues as the compbrake ones, sorry but that is a fail.
