"Repairing" the brown multiplug is pretty hopeless frankly, as usually not only is the plug itself in a mess, but the wiring either side is badly corroded and oxidized. You really need to chop out the brown multiplug and a 6-12" wire as a minimum, and run fresh wire down to the starter (and the other sensors while you're there) with new spade connectors. Ideally, run fresh wire all the way back to the underdash plugs thus making a fresh sensor loom.

Wiring in a relay isn't too difficult to do and I can scribble out a wiring diagram if you like, but I've never found a time when it was needed - a relay is fixing the symptom, not the underlying cause.

Basically, you need the original starter solenoid feed to one side of the low voltage side of the relay, and the other side earthed. On the high current side of the relay, you want a fused feed straight from the battery one side, and the other goes to the starter solenoid wire.

Hope that makes sense

Oh, and the other point of note is that the original bulky starter motors are much more prone to clicking than the later slimline Valeo starters found on various late 90's Peugeot and Citroen models.
