Devilbiss Spray Guns...

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this should be in the Body & ICE section, but its not a spefic question relating to 205's lol

Ive been using my mates Devilbiss spray gun for a while now to spray bits and pieces at home. But we've fallen out now so i need to buy my own. Ive been looking them up on google, ebay, etc, but im a bit confused with the whole air cap thing?? Can anyone point me in the correct direction.

Im for going with the Devilbiss Gti Pro gun. Am i correct in thinking the following (generally speaking):

0.8-1.0 air cap is for waterbased paint

1.3-1.4 air cap is for topcoat

1.6-2.2 air cap is for primer

Im mainly going to be spraying with 2K so im leaning towards a 1.4 cap as ive heard you can spray both primer and topcoat with it. Or should i buy a 1.4 and a 1.7 and change between coats? On my mates gun i never changed the cap (probably because i didnt know you had to!) so im thinking he had one that took everything. Unfortunately im not able to ask him what cap was on his gun

Also, does it really matter if its a H1 (HVLP), T1 or T2 (Trans-Tech) cap?? I take it for home spraying like mine it wont make a difference.

I am by no means a pro! But i would use the 1.4 for both primer and top coat, i have a sealy hplv gun which was around 40 quid which i find pretty good for home use, especially if you are not a pro which makes me think you will not get much of a diffrence end result between a cheap ish gun and a expensive one!

You also need to ensure the air compressor is up for the cfm.

yeah the compressor is dead on size wise. Sprayed a tractor with no air flow problems. Yeah a cheaper one would probably do my job but im use to the Devilbiss so prefer to stick with it.

Just phoned up a local paint store that sell the guns and asked them, so all my questions are answered for now. Cheers anyway. (Should probably of phoned them before posting on here lol  )
