Vibration Through The Car.... Gti 1.9

Recommended Posts

Guest wafers

My 1.9 has a vibration which basically rattles the whole car at anything between roughly 1-2k revs. Apparently the clutch was replaced 2000 miles ago.

Any suggestions? There's no obvious knocking noise on acceleration - my first guess was mullered engine mount?

Cheers

MrG

when mine had this it was a shagged driveshaft (inner joint I think on the long side!)

Cheers MrG but should have said, it does it at tickover, when the car is still, and when you give it gentle throttle. Not the driveshafts I guess.. ;)

i Had a similar problem not long ago and it ended up being the top engine mount 'spacer thing' rubbing the metal around it because it was in the wrong way round. Might be worth a look

Sounds like it could also be a mis-fire of some sort. Missing a cylinder can feel like that.

ah in that case I'd go with Rob, check the cap/leads but could also be the coil/amp?

Will go down the misfire route first then I guess. Any Cornwall members know anyone on here handy with a set of spanners for a couple of other jobs which I need to do?!

Cheers for the offer mate, the car isn't on the road yet, otherwise I would have been over like a shot! Thanks anyway

Steve@cornwall on here lives in Truro. Might be worth a pm to him as he helped me out when my wheel bearing failed while I was in Newquay a few years back and had no tools. Top bloke! Seem to remember there is a fair few others out your way as well.
