Seamwelding the chassis is an option...else buy a GTi :D

Braces don't do much about the flexing of a CTi's chassis

They wont do much, no. But they defently improve the feel.

i see your building a CTI Turbo? that is one of my future plans for the cti.

so is it worth getting the strut braces or are they more cosmetic than anything else.

do you have any pics of the weliding, is this something you have already done

no GTI for me i like the soft top.

I have the subframe (GTI one) seamwelded and a strutbrace mounted on my CTi T16. It does stiffen it up somewhat, but to be honest I would have rather seamwelded the whole floorpan before I had it sprayed back then.

I have an upper strut brace on mine, and its changed the feel quite alot. But I can still feel it flexing unlike my GTi.

I would do as M@tt said if your going to go the turbo route.

ok so strut bracr does sound like it helps when i put it in the garage over the winter to put the engine in seam weld the entire floor pan and add the rsj's is there much of a difference between the cti and the GTI subframes?

Cage it

It'll look a bit stupid, but you chose a CTi instead of a GTI, so you can't have your cake and eat it :(

I saw a silver Mk1 Golf cab with a cage once in PVW mag (IIRC).

May sound stupid, but the CTi's have a reinforced chassis/body as they have no roof.. Hence the crazy huge sills. Surely the flex wouldn't be too different to the GTi? I guess it would have more, but noticeably more??

A fair amount more, but compared to the XR3i, 3 Series and Golf's it was about the best,

Upgrade to GTi suspension but do not go to hard as this leads to even more flex, I'd get the straightest brace you can get, Bend a tube and it won;t add much strength really.

Just remember it's a CTi, if you want a car to handle well then it's got to be the GTi I'm afraid

i upgraded the suspenting to a full set of FK automotive springs and shocks all round had made a massive difference in the handleing but i want to make sure it going to me strond enough for the 2.0 turbo engine with the extra power am i gonna end up twisting something

A cage would proberbly be the best solution.....apart from the rsj's

Maybe adding braces to the existing roll bar.....

Not sure if the roof would still go up??

Something like this.....might be possible?
