I'd use a big car with good brakes though rather than 306 size

 

Definitely have to agree there, the more weight over the towing car the better. I use a Volvo estate but have still run into problems on occasion, wet roundabouts where the towed car has wanted to go straight on, forcing the back end of the tow car to also. Jack-knifing in effect. It's not fun. :D

 

I must admit though, i've used it more as a recovery/picking up cars tool. Only a couple of times ever has it been used to take a car to trackday/races etc. It's just alot of faffing to save not alot of time/effort/fuel when you could just drive there which in fact would then save you time and possibly fuel dependin on the tow car anyway.

most covers apart from the budget option will take you home or to your prefered garage. The RAC do for me and I dont have an expensive policy.

For breakdowns, recovery within the UK isn't an issue, and as said, all but the cheapest policies generally include this. Breakdowns on circuit are a far greyer area, but it's easy enough to get around this by towing the car a few miles down the road as required.

 

Accidents are more of an issue, as some breakdown cover doesn't include this, or has very limited cover for it. An accident on track would typically mean that you couldn't tow the car away either, but then equally, an A-frame would typically be useless in this situation.

quite right, i mean if i had an accident i more than likely would not be bothered abount the urgency of getting the car home. cash will always work when all else fails in that situation. its just paying through the nose for say a snapped clutch cable or something simple yet means you cant drive the car which i'm not good with.

 

i'll double check my policy and go from there i think

Trouble with a caravan chassis is that in general the hitch and axle is not up to the job of coping with any weight. Plus the hassle involved with making it all, unless you have a full fabrication workshop it is easier and probably not a great deal more expensive to buy something already built. Brian James Trailers would be what I would choose, but the likes of Woodfood, Fountain, Ifor Williams and some others I have probably forgotten also make decent trailers.

A brand new brian james clubman 1000 twin axle trailer retails at about £1200.

 

Bed size: 3.3m x 1.65m (11ft x 5ft 5)

 

enough for a 205 and pretty stable being twin axle :huh:

Look on ebay at completed listings.

 

Tbh though a decent twin axle braked trailer in decent order is realistically going to go for £600+

Dam tempting. I would of bought myself one ages ago, but you need somewhere secure to store it (out of reach of transit vans), which is my problem.

I paid a grand for my four wheeler and its going to be worth a grand all day long. I bought it second hand from some one in Wales and it was in very good order and even has a winch. I did look at some others but you have to be carefull as there is a lot of rubbish out there esp on e bay. :lol:

I was using a Volvo 360 which was frigging useless as it didnt have enough power to go past 60mph with the car and dolley on the back :lol:

 

Tut,tut you are a towing vehicle,you shouldn't exceed 60mph :lol: ......and while you are at it keep out of lane 3 on the motorway!!!!! :D
