Can Anyone Help Diagnose My Cars Problem Please?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so my car has developed a rather annoying problem this week.

It's a 1991 1.9 GTi 8v.

I fitted the engine into the car last August it has been running great since then, really good idle when warmed up and it rarely cuts out when cold, just hunts a little. I've been using regular unleaded over super if that makes any difference?

I don't know if it's electrical or fuel or Air related as it's kinda to do with the throttle.

Basically what is happening is,

A - the car cuts out all the time unless you keep the revs up with the throttle, nearly impossible as you have to use the brake sometimes. :P

B - The car kinda kangaroos/seems to 'choke' while you're on the throttle, always about 2000rpm and it cuts out in between gear changes. Basically making you bump start the car when you change up or down a gear.

Doesn't matter if you're driving normal or with a heavy right foot, makes no difference at all. Had a quick look and I can't see any loose wires, dodgey looking wires or loose connections.

Anyone got any ideas???

Throttle switch as in the wire that connects to the throttle body? And what could be wrong with the AFM?
