1.6 Gti Starter Motor?

I once put a 1400 garros starter on my 1600 gti and it worked fine but it was substantially smaller.

Any starter motor off a XU engine will fit.

Good luck with that if it was the original fat starter, they're infamous for staying unreliable even after a rebuild.

I've used 306XSi/GTi6 starters for ages now and don't have any problems with them (apart from dodgy wiring running up to them of course, but that's easily fixed when I can stop being lazy for 5 minutes )

yeah, get a gti6 starter. Sorted my life right out.
