Radiator Light

I noticed today going to work that the light below the battery light on my dash started flickering. i dont have any manuals but im guessing its the expansion tank level?

Its ok when the revs are low but once it gets above 2000rpm it starts flickering and staying on no more than 3 seconds.

The only to it is changed a leaking blank off plug at the bottom on the rad, since then i havent noticed any leaks there, or any where else and it hasnt lost any water. Gauges are fine, they dont go too high nor any lights come on.

If this is a loose connection where do i have to check?

Thanks

Dan

EDIT: Oops just noticed you said light below the battery light so ignore me talking about the alternator!

What does the light look like? If it is the coolant level warning light, you could have air in your system or your low level sensor might be gunked up. Try taking it out and cleaning it up.

If you have the later black expansion tank the routing of your HT leads can cause interference & make this light flicker due to the sensor being in the bottom of the tank (so you can't take it out to cleanwithout draining some coolant off first) or maybe you just need a bit of coolant adding.

I've just had a very similar experience today strangely.

Turned out the low coolant sensor was full of gunge - which is due to my coolant (only about a month old) being a lovely bright brown colour - anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? - I dont think its oil in there.

Probably from poor maintenence by previous owners not following the bi-annual coolant changes so the liners rust turning the coolant brown & creating gunk in the system which in turns blocks the sensor & radiatorr etc.

As suggested by omega a good flush out will help.
