Missing In The Higher Rev Range

Recommended Posts

mikeygulley

Hey guys,

I changed the cam cover on my 1600 gti last night and now for some reason it has started missing when i Reach the higher revs (i will admit I like to rev it hard) I have bought some new plugs this morning to go in later but just wanted to know if there might be anything else?

Oh and it also formed a little knock that is intermittent but just assumed it was because it was cold and getting its oil pressure up. I only noticed it because I had the bonnet up.

Any suggestions would be good.

Mike

coil or amp maybe? I had a misfire at 5k and I replaced both, it consigned the problem to the bin! Either that or perhaps you've dislodged a connector of sorts?

The knock, slight or loud and at what point does it knock?

Its a slight knock, but i noticed it in an instant. I let the engine run for about 2mins bit then switched it off, started it again and there was no knock. This morning the knock was there but then disappeared. could be nothing i suppose.

I did remove the cam spray rail thing too, to make sure it wasn't blocked. Are the lobes on the rail supposed to have some sort of seal or are they just a tolerance fit?

Take the engine out, then it wont knock! Trust me, I know from current experience that having your block out makes the 205 the most reliable car yet

Could well be a big end if it does it when cold then disappears. I'd give it an oil and filter change with some good quality oil such as Millers and see if it makes any difference. Also when you do rev it hard, make sure the water and oil, more importantly oil are up to temperature first.
