Black Or Grey Plastics?

Recommended Posts

Stevo309

Just got my 205, it's a j plate 1991 1.9 with no sun-roof but I just wanted to know if the bumpers are black or grey. To me they look very dark grey but are not black, the boot panel is black and there's a difference in shade. The interior is black and it has the clear front indicators and later rear lights with reverse light in the bumper, does this mean it's certain to be phase 2 or 1.5 and should I buy black plasticare or grey?

Even though they look dark grey would they be regarded as black or is it possible my car has grey plastics?

they are VERY dark grey on the later cars, often referred to as black B)

a 91 car would be a phase 2, unless it was registered very late, though sounds unlikely from the spec.

More than likely it's Phase 2 "Black" trim that's faded.

I've never seen nor heard of a J plate car that's been registered late enough to get Phase 1/1.5 "Grey" trim as standard, although of course it could have been retrofitted. Far far far more likely that it's just faded trim though, which is common and exactly what Plasticare does a brilliant job of sorting out.

If you're still unsure, remove a piece of red strip or the front numberplate and see what colour the comparitively unfaded trim where it's been shielded from UV and the elements B)

Thanks for the advice guys. Good call with the numberplate. I have changed the plates on the car actually and the colour was the same underneath, i don't think they're faded as the colour is pretty consistent and i have applied Autoglym bumper care silicon to shine them up. Had to remove polish from them with a toothbrush first though. The previous owner described the car as phase 1.5 but I think it's phase 2.

The plastics all look nice now and in good condition but just raised the question as i would have said they were very dark grey. Evidently I think this is what you would call black though judging by these comments.

Thanks again :D
