Car Immoblizier Options

Recommended Posts

blessed6383

hi guys

looking for options of immoblizing the car without to much hassel so that when its parked in those places you dont really want to park but dont have much choice thought about battery cut off switches but easy to bypass if found and means wouldn't be able to lock my car as been de-locked. dont want something that takes ages to start car as you never know when you need to go in a hurry :) will be getting decent clifford or sim in few months but just want to keep car safe for now. has a toad alarm fitted but dont thin k much of it as has no boot or bonnet switch or internal sensors so pretty sh3t :)

Put a switch on the ignition switched live somewhere under the dash, tuck up in the recess by the ECU, or put inside the ashtray (or similar).

I bought a car with a switch like this but didn't know, was under the dash. Accidently must have knocked it and spent 3 hours trying to get the car started.

I had a Cavalier with a cut out switch mounted in the passenger footwell. I was giving a friend of my sisters a lift home after her shift at the pub when she accidently kicked it.

And thats how reputations start :)

Remember those cheap things that went inbetween the battery terminal and the cable?? You unscrewed it and took it with you so if you tried starting the car it blew the 15 amp fuse.

My 8 valve has no immobiliser at the moment due to water ingress from a leaky matrix, stupid alarm fitters. I pull out the last fuse in the fuse box its the one on your right if looking in from the glove box on the very end. This is the fuel pump one so will start up with fuel all ready in the rail but cuts out after a few seconds. I just put the fuse into a blank slot so unless your know a 205 fuse box it should take a while to work out.

If im somewhere really bad the tachermetric relay comes out the one near the ecu as well for extra security. Pheraps i shouldnt be putting this information on here B) never mind it will have a new toad system very soon. I often think myself any one who managed to hotwire the car would think there's something wrong when first starting a jetronic 205, like a f1 car with a certain procedure to start and keep up to idle until up to temperature :)

get one of those disc lock things about 50 quid takes about 1min to fit /remove once you have your alarm you can give it to the mrs or still use it.

only downside is they are abit awakward to store in the car

ive had one for 5 years think they are ace

ps i thought toad alarms were one of the best.

I agree with the hidden switch on the ignition live. this means that you'll be able to start the car again without the need to open the bonnet i.e. in a hurry. otherwise take the main lead to the dizzy. but that means that its an open bonnet job. so a hidden switch along with a disklock or another steering lock should be fine.

I have to say I've also a couple of disclocks from when I used to live in a bit of a questionable area. These days its pretty safe where I live, and the cars are also usually locked in the garage so I don't often use them now. But they are a great bit of kit, that are not coming off in a hurry.
