Mk1 Corsa Front Positive Camber

Recommended Posts

dino20vt

Just changed the oil pressure switch on my brother in laws Corsa and gave it a test drive. God what an experience, it was all over the road and when cornering it kept snatching and going light and hard. Once home, expecting the tracking to be out, it didn't look bad at all but both front wheels seem to have excessive positive camber, any ideas what's causing this?

Positive camber? You mean the top of the wheels lean out?

Wrong hubs? Badly fitted or wrong struts (though hard to think how this would create positive camber).

Must understeer like a bitch if positive camber - I mean more than a normal Corsa.

What you describe sounds like negative camber, wheels leaning in. Top mounts wrecked? Lowered too much. Wrong wishbones? Balljoints letting go?

Definately positive camber, top of the wheels lean out, opposite to a knackered 205 beam.

Not as far as in aware, especially as they both lean out at the top by the same amount each side. He bought it with some crappy after market 15's on, the fronts have 195 55 15's on, which I think is too big and the rears wear 195 50 15's.

they have a two bolt fixing between the hub carrier and the damper strut, the upper bolt is an eccentric one, loosen the nut from both and turn the top bolt till the camber is correct, then hold the bolt and tighten the nut.

you'll most likely need to get the toe corrected as well.

i.e, take it to anywhere that can sort the alignment for you.

biggest standard tyre they use on these is 185 60, which is closest to 195 50 15 to a few mm.

Do you recon you're average tracking place would set the camber for him while setting the toe or would they not have a clue?

they should know how to sort it, not like they're anything unusual! many VW's Audis and seats have this as well, and IIRC some BMW's.
