Bodywork Repair Advise Needed Urgently!

Recommended Posts

Really need some advise on this and for you guys to tell me and my brother what you think of the work he has had done on his 306.

Couple months ago he was hit from behind when driving home from work.

It turned into an insurance job and needed a new bumper fitted. first time around we soon realised they had put a second hand bumper on and pocketed 300 pounds, so we sent it back for a new bumper as the insurance quote stated. so my brother got the car back last week and we arent sure what to make of the job.

what we dont like is the gap between the bumper and rear panel its hard to c in pictures but its approx a 1cm. you can put your finger in and wiggle it round. you can see the inside edge of the bumper and me and my brother are not inpressed as before it fitted perfectly.

Our query is we are not sure if its a genuine peugeot bumper or an oe one? if we could some how tell the difference? or is it poor fitting and could be done a lot better? or are we expecting to much.

The insurance quote was for all genuine peugeot parts. I have included pictures before and after.

Thank you very much for reading and looking any response would be awesome.

I don't know of many insurance companies that will fit OE bumpers (when pattern is avaible) to a car over 5 years old (direct line might)

How did you get to see a list of parts fitted? Usually a closely guarded secret. Was the list from the bodyshop or the insurance company?

If your not happy complain to your insurance company first.

the poor fit is down to a pattern part bumper being fitted almost certainly what makes you think they would use gen parts on a car of that age.on anything over 5 years of age they will use pattern as there half the price go back to your insurance company and complain

Remove the towing eye cover and see what is says on there, It might be a clue as the main markings mean taking it off again

Hi thanks for the comments, sorry but i think i am confused between oe, pattern and genuine? if some would could explain. And i just assumed they would fit genuine as the bumper price was £300. Sorry i have little knowledge if someone could please explain.

thank you for being patient

Most pattern bumpers come without so you have to reuse the original. Worth a try though.

OE/OEM = original equiptment or genuine

Pattern = copy

Basically :P if pug fitted

thanks merlin and sorry for dumb question. and correction the cost of the bumper on the insurance quote is £350. so would that suggest the insurance quoted a oe bumper or pattern?

Thank you miles i will have a look at the towing eye panel when he gets back.

Depends if that includes paint prep strip/fit etc... Or if it's just for the part. I would guess-timate a pattern part to cost ~£90

It wasn't a stupid question by the way :P

i would rather have a good 2nd hand genuine bumber than a copy part the copy parts never fit right on them 306s weve had loads of 306 ones that are piss poor fitting

that's a fair markup if its purely their price of the part, as its £260 from peugeot for the bumper inc towing eye cover and numberplate lamp bracket, before any discount.

Thought they had to ask your permission to use non oem parts, certainly did with mine was given the choice of write off or use pattern parts. Bloody things are rusting already after only 9 years!!!!!

the quote was for a off the shelf bumper at 350. so it most be an oe one. so the next plan is to take the bumper off. i will have a little read on the forum on how to, but if anyone has any tips it would be awsome. could anyone alert us to being able to tell the difference between oe and pattern this would also be fantastic

thank you very much

Not being funny buddy but why should you have to start taking it off yourself? If you are not happy with the repair contact your insurance company and do not give up until you are happy. If it comes to it insist on the car being repaired at a place of your choosing. The garage that has done half a job may not be too pleased, but they probably get sufficient amount of work from your insurance company to mean that they will not want to fall out with the ins company, therefore you should get the outcome you want.

I would be going up the wall with the insurance company especially given this is a no fault clam (probably). Just keep taking it back saying you are not happy with the job, or as TF has said take it to another garage.

Personally I would not take it off, once you have done this there is no physical evidence of poor fit. I would contact your insurer first and take it from there.
