What type of head? and what work are you looking at,

But I;ve not heard anything bad just average results from them so you;ll find better and worse, For any good std head builds there are a few local companies

I don't think Geoff's got any massive proven results with the Pug engines, although he's popular with Vauxhall's. I had a good chat with him when I started out on the build of my current engine, and his indifference and lack of enthusiasm meant I went with Longman in the end, and I'm kinda glad I did. I'd use him for straight engineering work, no problem, but for stuff like working a head I wasn't 100% convinced... shame really, he's very local for me...!

I've used him for parts in the past and he has been very good... I see no reason why his cams shouldn't work as I assume they are fairly well proven profiles but again, I don't think he necessarily designs them himself, so there may be better from other manufacturers. Would certainly trust him to balance and put together an engine for me, but I have no knowledge of his modified heads... Having said that, I have never heard anything bad, which is rare in this business and his prices look good. If I wanted a new engine, mildly breathed on for road, not track... They would be who I would call!

The 1.9 8v bottom end on my '89 205 was originally built by Autosprint (for the previous owner of the engine) and is still going strong, years later <_<

It originally had the head and (I believe) cam setup they do, together with a pair of twin 45's and when I briefly had a drive it seemed to pull well and revved more like a 16 valver whilst retaining decent tractability low-down - wouldn't like to start estimating power figures, but for what it's worth it certainly didn't subjectively seem any slower than the 205 Mi16 I used to have back then. I can't remember the specific details of the head and cam spec, but if you do a search it used to belong to mfield on here a few years back (circa 2004-2005 I guess) and might reveal some details. He later sold the head, cam and carbs when he broke his car for parts, and I had the bottom end off him.

Another friend of mine had a set of their cam regrinds in an 1.9 Mi16, but never seemed to have much success or achieve the results that were expected and in the end put it back on standard cams.

Close but no cigar :D

The bottom end and cam were from Autosprint but not the head. The head was a funny one, back in 2000'ish iirc I sent a head off to a company called powerzone ( ? can't remember now ) for work to be done and it took ages. I phoned them up to see what the delay was and surprisingly they told me they'd destroyed my head by snapping a die grinder in it :o , to cut a long story short it came back to me in a box from minisport.

The head was a good one that I sold to boombang on here after that I have no idea where it went, iirc I was playing about with jets for the fun of it and took it for a quick power run at MASS and it made 150bhp roughly, was quite surprised after just tweaking things by feel like the cam timing and jetting, the ignition was for a std car as well whilst running a lumpy stick.

The cam from Autosprint was a regrind that gave the same lift as a std gti one but had LOADS of extra duration, was happy to rev to just under 8k felt like the power tailed off around 7.5k, so if the bottom end is still going strong that's quite good for an 8v block from Autosprint

I think I would suggest talking to MASS though for a cylinder head because while there they told me how much they can get out of an 8v head and it was as good as anything I've heard from Longmans.

Hope that helps
