205gti6 Manifold Cut And Angle

Recommended Posts

miamigtimark

I would be really greatfull if any of you guys with gti6 conversions could supply me with details of how they modified their manifolds.

1. Where to cut and how far through the manifold to weaken enough for bending.

2.How they bent it. ie how much heat ( im presuming it takes more heat than ill get out of a taymar burner??) / use of vice or larger equipment to alter the angle.

3. Approx measurements of how much the manifold "cuts" were opened before welding. Just so i know ive altered the angle enough to clear the bulkhead.

Many thanks . Mark.

But I cannot give out this information as you can expect, It took me hours of work and cost me money so it would be silly for me to supply it.

Yes Miles. I know you sell the bespoke modified manifold. I would not take the pee by asking you direct.

However i have seen from other members journals that they have done this modification by cut / weld. Rather than bend.

I did the cut, bend and weld on my manifold. Couldn't (not won't) tell you the angle though, did't make a note of it before i fittedit in the car. Sorry

I ended up bending a bit, then fit to try , remove, bend a bit more and so on and so on.

Thanks for your help.

Just wanted to avoid trial and error.

If i plan it right i should get it in first time with out having to remove it again.

Did you have to heat it up to bend though ? and if so with what?

I just cut most of the way through and bent it cold.

The next one i do i will heat up and bend though.

All 205s are different, only way you will get a perfect fit is trial and error

Seems a lot of effort when one of Miles fits straight out of the box! ;)

?? :P

From experience having fitted one of Miles manifolds, i would not even bother to try to make on when you can get one at such quality for a very reasonable price. Also i can weld and i know quality welding when i see it. :)

Who knows! Example my car runs a 1.9 mi16 with a standard manifold and qep wedge and rubs the bulkhead - a setup which is designed to clear! You just never know. That's 80's french tolerences...

Have you checked that it actually knocks?

Mine is not cut or angled at all and I have not probs with knocking. I knocked the seam back mind and tilted the engine about 7degs on the bottom fork.

It does seem there are is a large tolerance across the range
