Help With Gearbox

hi the syncros are starting to go in my mi with 1.6 box mainly crunching going into 3rd and 4th at high revs so i have a choice i like the 1.6 box but have a known good s16 box but the problem is will the s16 box fit and if it does is there anything else i will have to buy for it to work?? or is it best to just find another 1.6 box?

The S16 box will fit but you might need to swap the clutch arm depending on what clutch style was fitted to it, push or pull.

 

IIRC you need apush type for a 205 GTI.

 

Also, the fourth & fith gears are longer on the S16 (Mi16) box than the 1.6.

You'd have to look at the different ratios of the boxes and decide what more suitable for you
