Cooling Fan Switch Wiring

Recommended Posts

stefan

Been searching through 5 pages of +cooling +fan +switch, and haven't found what I need.

The car has a mess of a wiring, by the number of the wires on the engine loom I indentified it to be XU9J1/Z/L, (besides the engine beeing a 130hp one without lambda), according to haynes, but cannot find the wiring diagram of this circuit, for those models.

When I connect the radiator fan (which has 2 wires, one ground, the second positive) grey plug with it's matching plug the fan goes on at full speed (permanently) , WHY?

The loom doesen't have the resistor, it uses the relays in the black box on the slam panel.

HOW MANY wires go out from the radiator Cooling fan switch (thermoswitch)? There are 2 at the moment, both white with no numbers on them, going out of the first pin. There are some signs of tinkering with it because there are wires coming out of the other 2 pins in the plug, but have been cut off or smth.

Thanks, already read that one when searched, it's a good one, but it doesen't solve/address my problem.

My loom doesen't have a resistor, among other differrences.

Many resistors have been cut out so the fan comes on at full speed instead of half speed.

You say you have a black box on the slam panel. This is the shunt box and has no relays in it. It is a distribution block with 2, 25 amp fuses in it.

If I was you I would remove the loom from the car (it is self contained) so you can have a good look at what you have got.

No, this is a different type, no resistor. The fan is operated via relays.

I am talkink about the black box containing 3 relays, not the shunt box.

2 purple relays and a green one. 2 white wires exit the 2 purple relays then go into the fans grey plug.

One thin white wire is exiting the Cooling Fan Switch and entering the green relay, as are 2 thick ones, one white and one black from the shunt box. So you see there is no resistor and the fan is operated via these relays.

There is one more thin white wire going out of the Coling fan switch but is cut.

Now if someone recognises this type of loom it would be a start to post how many wires totaly are exiting their Cooling fan Switch, and where do they go.

It would be much easier if there were a wiring diagram of this system, but I can't get one.The ones in the haynes manual are for the TU1,3,9 and XV8, XW7, XY8 and XU51C engine models.

And the fan goes off at full speed as soon as I connect the fan plug and/or put in one of the purple relays, on a cold engine.

Yes smth like that, the car has one fan, but the wiring is similar, 3 relays.

Can't make out from that diagram because it's only a partial pic and without a legend, but it seems as the cooling fan switch isn't shown there.

I chandged the relays before, but the fan still immediately goes off at full speed.

Tommorow I'll try changing the cooling fan switch , but before I do that I need to know how many wires are there going out of the switch and where do they go, because at the moment I have one going into the green relay and one broken off, don't know where that one is supposed to go and if there are any others.

Just renewing this, still have the problem and need a wiring diagram of the fan termoswitch and relays, if anyone has it.

To repeat, the fan engages in second gear as son as it's connected or the according purple relay inserted into it's plug.

Miles

The fan loom is still seperate from the car bar the red 2 pin plug which switch's the fans off with the ignition.

I bet it's the themo switch gone wrong

The thermoswitch?

Already tried another one, still the same, even when the thermoswitch is disconnected the fan works at full speed.
