I needed to change the 'Chav Cannon' exhaust on my 205 gti6 as it made my ears bleed and it would attract unwanted attention ( this was a janspeed system), I phoned around a few places and this was the results for a standard back box.

Genuine Pug item £82

SDL in Sheffield - Bosal £51

Inferior Quality (GT Exhaust) £34

Andrew Page - £66 for a Timax/Arvin

Halfords - Timax or Equivalent quality - £29.45 Bought with trade card.

Only negative was that I had to physically visit the store and pay and then visit again to pick up.

Is it actually a decent Timax/Arvin one though?

IME there's so many differences in backboxes, and even exhausts in general, and it does make a difference!

Halfords place the order with Andrew Page I was informed. It didnt say Timax or Arvin on it. The only indented letters were something like 'BSE' but I cant fully remember as it is now on the car.

Taxed, mot'd & insured, BUT definitely still work in progress, but available to go on a run around the peaks!

Mr G

The Janspeed made a big different to midrange torque on the MI I had compared to the Bosal downpipe, but it had a resonating baffle, I repacked the back box with Acoustafil but it was still too loud for me, it seems the GTI6 makes more noise than an MI, I wanted a quiet exhaust and OE is a cheap stop gap. I will keep the Janspeed downpipe as it is 2.5" and has the split which I want to try on the GTI6 once I have modified the manifold.

Cheers
