What Is The Rate Of Std 205gti Springs

Recommended Posts

peakrevs

As title. I'm planning on changing to coil-overs so need this information for the 2.25" diam springs that I'll be using.

The other question is, are the standard springs progressive?

Thank you for your help

John

around the 100lb/inch afaik, certainly not progressive.

In the standard geometry the spring rate is slightly progressive though- due to the angle the spring sits at relative to the damper body.

Sounds a bit light. 500kg weight over the rear wheels, 250kg or 550lb over each one, struts almost vertical would surely give a deflection of over 5 inches. I would have expected something in the region of 220lb. Or am I not calculating it correctly?

Don't forget that the springs are already compressed by the assembled struts, even with no weight on them.

Certainly not. Eibach 7001 springs are around 120lbs iirc, and are noticably stiffer than the standard items.

Sounds about right, they're compress about 2.5 inches to get them in the strut to start with...

yeah, and then at least 2.5 inches when you drop the car on the ground.
