A Plate 1984 205 Gti Info?

Recommended Posts

Guest davehouse

Hello, I am trying to find out some information on my recently purchased 205 gti.

I think I have found a gem as the car has only covered 52,000 miles and has 1 previous lady owner.

The car is on an A plate built in 1984 but I would like to know how many 205 gti's were registered on an A plate and how many are still on the road today?

I have owned several 205's but have never seen one this old so I don't know how much it's worth? Hopefully more than I payed for it haha

Thanks in advance for any help

Wow sounds like a good buy. Pics speak 1000 words though :)

How much did you give for it out of interest? Some seem to sell for silly money and some seem to sell for peanuts, I think it just depends on the buyer really. You can probably contact the DVLA and find out some more info on how many were registered that year and how many remain. Also 1.6's seem to be worth less money really.

there's a facility on this site to add attachments either that or host them on a pic site like photobucket etc. If not pm me and I'll stick them up for you.

Oh and please keep it as it is, no 16v's, it would be grand to see this old lady stay as pug intended.

We need pictures . I think i've only ever seen one A plate on here before. It'll be worth the same as any other 52k miler 205 gti, unless someone has a fetish for a very early one and then you might get lucky and get even more for it. It could be deemed a more collectable 205 to the right person.

An example: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1771255.htm

The above link is a C reg GTI with a price tag of £1150 on 90 odd k miles. It'll probably go for a touch under a grand. Just to give you an idea. In fairness i've only seen a few C plates in my years.

Is it red and is the dash intact?

If so how much do you want for it?

I've tried to add some pics, hopefully i've done it right!

One of the pics is in a garage where it has been stood for 3 years.

The others are at the garage I work at where I have changed all the fluids and the battery.

It will then be going to a bodyshop to sort out the rust on the side, a few small dints and to refurb the alloys.

The car is totally standard and I plan to keep it that way.

If I have any money left I may splash out on some new side mouldings and bumper inserts. Does anybody know the best place to get these from?

It may be up for sale sometime in August when I've sorted out the bodywork.

I am happy to keep posting pictures during the restoration if people are interested.

Nice find that should be a good little motor once you have it sorted

Then you will not want to part with it :)

Very nice.

Have you checked it over for any crash damage because to me the doors and wings have been resprayed, the bottom of the door paint is peeling a lot and the rear sill looks like any other sill rust. The rear quarter looks original paint to me because the front wings/doors look to light in colour tbh.

Keep us posted because that car is a great find :).

There's allot of work there I'm afraid, As you will find more when you start with the extent of the rust from the pictures as unfortunality the Early car's where quite bad for it.

Yes it's worth doing but like allot of restrations you can spend allot in no time at all.

Being realistic you would soon sink 2k+ into that car to get it on its way to being put right. That rear 1/4 doesn't look to hot and you may end up with a door and front wing too. Could of had a spurious rear 1/4 at a time as the paint looks different, or is it the light and camera? Once rust sets in it's either cut it out or replace the panel to make sure it never comes back. Get a good look in round and underneath it. Worth of saving as it's a ph1 1.6 105 bhp engine as there aren't to many of them left.

I love the silver, same as my old phase 1. I wish I hadn't cubed it

Looks a great little project. Did you find it in Sheffield as it is a local registration? I'd love an early one with the 305 switchgear. However they dissolved before C plate so are pretty rare now and the market is still people buying good ones as opposed to old ones.

Please keep posting pics though :)

I have a really old CAR magazine review from when the 205 GTI came out, and the car they photo'd for the article was an A-reg silver 1.6. Don't think it was your one, but I'll dig it out and check.

Nice find there though. As others have said, I'd expect that it'll take a fair bit of time and money to do it justice. Worth it though,as it'll always be appealing to someone, being an A-reg, and in nice condition at a meet it'll get plenty of attention too. Don't modify whatever you do!

After spending a bit of time and money I have decided to sell my ph1 gti.

Can't see a for sale section on this forum so below is a link to the advert (with pics)

If anybody has any questions please ask on here.

I would keep it to use as a second car but I don't have space.

It got restored. It used to belong to a little old man who ran a tobacconist in Chesterfield IIRC
