I need to get some better tyres on this gti and was hoping someone could give me ideas for the standard 14" alloys :P I want some cheap as poss really but reasonable grip and could be used for occasional track day or sprint :D

Baz

There's some fairly massive threads regarding tyres from the last year or so.

Woosung Dark Horse?

Mmmmmmmmmm! I hear they use three different types of coconut fibre in every tyre.

Seriously though, do a search, Baz is right.

And cheap and good don't go together when it comes to tyres.

^^ This. You either get cheap, and risk having an accident. Or get a good set of tyres and vastly increase your chance of staying on the road.

Saying that, Toyo Proxies T1Rs are a good price - I got 4 x 195 50 15 for my 205 GTi6 and that cost me about £150. Awesome tyres and deffo kept me on the Nurburgring. Just don't do more than 2-3 laps of the Nurburgring continuously on VERY hot days as they tend to "overheat" so to speak.

Woosung Dark Horse?

I'll see your Woosung and raise you with a Roadstone Darkhorse 60.

Having a pair of those on the rear of my old 205 STDT for a few months taught me more about car control than pretty much the rest of my driving experience combined. I must say though, that I'm intreiged to try out the Woosung Darkhorse's to see how they compare... :)

Nah, you all need Sava Intensa's. :) They make you a hero.

Of the few "proper" road tyres I've tried on a 205, I think Uniroyal Rainsports were the best all-rounder. Great in the wet and better than Eagle F1s in the dry, although that isn't really saying much. The best tyres I've had on other cars has been Continental Premium Contact.

Cheapest tyres I've ever had (in the long run) were BF Goodrich which weren't ridiculously expensive and lasted for 35000 miles of.. ahem... spirited driving. It will only be a bargain if your alignment is spot on though!
