Neway Valve Seat Cutting Tools

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any experience using the Neway valve seat cutting hand tools?

I'm currently rebuilding and porting a mi head, the valves need to be refaced, and I got feed up of going to the machine shop where I left heaps of money over the years for all the work I gave them, and the sad thing they still don't get the job done the way I want.

Neway looks like a good option.

Also does anyone know if the tools can be ordered from somewhere in Europe or the UK, I found what I need from an online shop in the states but the shipping cost is half the value of the items, they even don't have Croatia listed there.

Machine cutting is always preferable if you can get it done for reasonable money. Hand cut seats tend not to be as concentric or have the height and width precision.

Well the machining costs really add up over the years, as to the precision ther's a lot to be said. A machine is precise as much as it's well maintained and set up. The machine shop I use has a Serdi machine wich is an excelent thing to start with but it demands rigorous maintaining and setting up, wich I am confident that it isn't done. The concentricity has been acceptable, seat width and height hasn't, because they don't want that much of a hassle, they do the job in the shortest time possible.

Getting a Sunnen or Serdi myself isn't possible at the moment, and probably won't be because I don't have that much work, and would never get the investment return.

If it's that bad then you might well get better results by hand! Most of the people I know that aren't using Serdi, are using Mira hand cutters. Some info here: http://www.sabre-heads.co.uk/4.html

I say what I say, because when I went from Mira seats to Serdi, the quality of my heads leapt forward. Seat+valve life, chamber volume consistency, spring height tolerance, all got better, but what was most noticeable, was how easy it is to shim up when the valve heights are all within a couple thou and how balanced/smooth the finished engine feels.
