Bbm Coolant Hose Problem

Recommended Posts

lemmingzappa

I've fitted the majority of the 8v hose kit but i've now stumbled across an issue.

The hose which is supposed to exit the side of the block and attach to the lower matrix pipe is no where near long enough. My original hose is all one piece, but looking at the haynes diagram it shows the hose in two pieces with a 'temperature gauge sensor' in the middle ?

Anyone know where I can buy a piece to bypass the 'temperature gauge sensor' in the middle ?

You've got an earlier hose as fitted to Phase 1 and 1.5 cars. These had a small metal part in the middle with the coolant temp sensor on it, and the hose was split in two to accomodate this.

Later Phase 2 cars like yours used a different hose that was all one piece, as you've identified.

Earlier and later engines are different IIRC, the early cars had the extra temp sensor housing, later cars had it built into the thermostat housing.

Edit: DOH! beaten to it!

if its a new unused hose, give stew a ring and see if you can swap for the later ones like the guys said you need :(

It's an 8v set, iirc they all come like this unless you specify to Stew that you need a later/Mi type item.

My only mention to him was Phase 2 iirc. I sent him an e-mail anyway, hopefully he'll have the right piece in yellow otherwise i'll be on a mission to create a complex 9" join <_<

You'll also find that the water Dist housing is different on the Phase 2's as they switched to plastic from the Alloy one's, again a differenet size outlet

Is that that part at the bottom of the block which splits off into 3 hoses ?

If so, luckily all the hoses seemed to go on fine. Wether they will leak or not once running is a different matter.

Hi,

You have the later setup by the sounds of things.

I can send you a black hose to sort your fitting issues for the lower heater matrix. I haven't had any of these made in yellow.

As Miles mentioned: Check your water distribution block at the rear of your engine. If you have the plastic fitting you will need the smaller dia. type hose.

All the best

Stew
