Rear Quarter Rust...

Recommended Posts

Joehow

Hi,

I am set up to tackle a medium- bad case of rear arch and sill rust. What is the best way to go with this, simply cut it out and weld new metal in or get a pattern part rear arch or 2 new rear quarters of a donor vehicle.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

These pics where taken after it winter at uni when it didnt get to stay in its garage. The rust is is no longer visable as obviously as I have cleaned it all up.... from having the car up on a lift it seems pretty solid underneath and some pretty forced screwdriver prodding hasnt revealed anything too nasty.

does`nt look to bad tbh if it hasnt gone through clean it up and paint it .Mine went in the same place but alot worse ive just finished putting a sill on it and welding a peice in the rear arch/quarter was a pain to be honest so get yours now before it gets as bas as mine

So just rub it down with some sandpaper if the metal has pitted with rust try some rust remover i,e jenolite, currust etc then paint it to stop it from doing it again

cool, guess ill go for it then. Its hard though to match paint as the moron who i bought it off had it sprayed in seemingly halfords gloss white lol.

How much of a pain was it for you to weld etc.... ive always been of the thinking that any rust will come back unless its cut out so mught just go for this option.

if you do it properly it shouldnt come back.. a lot of people just rub the rust down with sand paper and paint over it thinking thats good enough..

either get some currust on it or use an angle gringer with a twisted knot wire brush connection, these work really well for getting rid of damp rust..

also once you prime it with etch primer, dont just leave it, or rust will come back, you need to seal it all up with topcoat paint. ive seen a lot of people do this too..

I would also seal the gap where the wheel arch joins behind this area.
